BUILDING NEWS

What a fabulous sunny start to the weeks work. The internal walls are just about complete now and Geoff is working on the arch leading into the spare room. Edd has been back up ladders doing yet more conduits. The plumbing team finally arrived at the end of last week and zoomed around making up for lost time. We had a day of frenetic but productive activity, however, it will need a second day of work for them to complete this stage.

Al came to inspect our efforts on Sunday and we took a sample of glass that Peter had prepared for us down to the house site to see the effect. Peter had produced a strip with bands of the different glass colours and styles that we had chosen so that we could it on site. We held it up in position and were able to see the pools of coloured light on the floor. Even with the soft bush colours we had chosen it gave a lovely effect. The plain bubble glass sparkled in the sunlight almost like water which was much more dramatic than I expected.

Edd and Al discussed how the cool air inlet pipes would duct through the walls to help air movement and Al explained how he saw the fireplace and chimney working. He insisted we do the other internal arch with double brick like the first one. He is probably right.

OTHER NEWS

The new chooks have settled in and I opened their hatch door today. They only stuck their heads today because but the sunlight and fresh air was a bit overwhelming for chooks who have always been confined. They do not know what greens and bugs taste like yet. The old chooks are loving their freedom and egg production from them is up this week.

Sailing was fabulous on Sunday. We all agree that it is very relaxing. Morren took our boat out on his own for the first time. This is a huge step as he is a very cautious child. Ti is very confident and the rest of us now feel that we should learn to handle more wind next.

Today I worked on my new tree area by the clothesline. I got several citrus trees out of pots and into the ground and the turned over most of the earth with a spade ready to plant out the other avocados. I still have not found a “bacon” tree, which I should have to assist the pollination of the others.
