plastering

8.12.11

BUILDING NEWS

Today was unexpectedly entertaining. The plasterers brought stilts and strode up and down the house fixing the joints between the plasterboards. One guy had had extensive tats and definitely looked good enough for a circus! I was despatched to Lilydale to collect base coat mix but I managed to do another mix of floor grout in the afternoon and did not miss all the fun.

Josh has been grabbed for work at Bo’s restaurant so Edd is going on with the wing walls waterproof coating. Richard came but could not get much done with all the other activity where he needed to work. The plasterboard is now up in all the front rooms and some of the back passage, it makes the place seem much lighter.

The house is a cool place to work as the sun hardly gets inside this time of year. I did notice an arch of light in the snug room about lunchtime that came from the curved front windows. It was not direct sun and to tell the truth I am not totally sure what it was. Our glass is going in the windows next week so maybe we will get colour reflections in strange places, who knows.

OTHER NEWS

Al is back from his trip to Lao. We have spoken to him but not face to face yet. He sounds a lot more relaxed than he was when he left. He seems to have had a real adventure. Edd spoke to Wayne on the phone too. He says he has had lots of work and been very busy so hopefully no big dramas there.

My garden is still neglected but we are getting lots of lovely strawberries and even a few raspberries and blueberries for our breakfast. The tomatoes are now setting fruit and the lettuces are large enough to eat. I have almost filled the small raised bed ready for zucchinis but I need Edd to move some earth for me with Skiddy before I plant anything.

Dot’s little doe kids are growing but have a lot of catching up to do before they are strong enough to go in with the rest of the years youngsters. They are soft gold colours and I am rather glad that she never got to her new home and have them there. Dot has always been a favourite goat so having one of her daughters that looks very like her is nice.
