22.11.2010 Building News. We are now getting ready to build and collecting quotes from various builders. At present it is dry but already we are having very hot days, not the best for concrete. Christmas is also rushing towards us, and the chances of getting anything done before the holiday is looking more and more remote. We have to be very careful about this stage, as it is the basis for getting the house built to a budget. Luckily Edd has taken the task on.
Edd has also brought something called a skid steer from NSW. He got up at the ungodly hour of 3 am on Thursday last week and flew up to Sydney for the day to check it out. If all goes to plan it will be transported down here in the next few days and at least we will have a tool to help us move stuff around. There is still so much clearing up after the mess made by the fires that we felt we needed extra power on our side. The council left us piles of beautiful mulch from the dead trees they moved on the roadside, and I have piles of heavy deep litter in the poly house but I am just not strong enough to carry it where it is needed. We think the skid steer will be small enough to get into sheds and goat pens and strong enough to pick stuff up. I just hope we have acquired a solution and not more problems!
Other news
The last few weeks have been very busy. Dave Payne has been staying in Josh’s donga whilst he organised a more permanent place to stay in Healesville and this week end India came to stay and slept in the shed loft. It is now getting hot so on Saturday Bo and kids joined us and the youngsters had the first swim of the year in the old pool. Even Bo’s dog had a swim in the dog pond and got so muddy he had to be shampooed before he went home.
I was glad we have the outdoor room, as it is much easier to get lunch there once we get bigger numbers. Unfortunately, India fell off the horse and hurt her wrist. We strapped it up as it did not look broken and she did not make any fuss. On Sunday she went with Edd and took Bo’s boys up to Sugar Loaf dam for sailing cadet class. Morren was amazing and listened carefully so that he remembered everything he was told. He even took a small sailing boat right out on his own and enjoyed it. This was very positive, as it is rare to find anything he just takes to. I have noticed that with young kids one success at the right time works miracles for their confidence.
After sailing I checked India’s hand and it was clear that although her wrist and fingers were fine there was swelling and damage at the back of her hand. I suspected a broken bone so we got Al’s permission to get her checked out at hospital before taking her home. This was the right move because the doctor also thought he could see a broken bone on the X-ray . He made her a support so she could rest and protect her hand if needed whilst she waits for the hand clinic.
Al met us in Healesville and he has also had a hard week with problems on one building project and x very sick at home. I am really glad they are getting right away over Xmas, as they need a rest. Josh is still procrastinating about his last piece of written work for university. It is impossible to support or nudge him on from here so we just worry.
