29.11.2010 Building News.
Edd and I went down to boral last week to check out pavers for the house floor. We ended up putting pavers on all our rooms in the old house because they were so practical and I loved the look. We were in luck because there was a big load of the terracotta colour pavers in stock and we were able to check out a pallet. We have decided on a paler colour for outside and the back passage. The colours were beautiful and we brought samples home before we made a final decision.
Al came up with the bricklayer on Saturday. We went through all the aspects of the build, which took ages but was a worthwhile thing to do. I tried to make sure that we understood each other. I have printed out pictures I have found of the look that I want to achieve. The builder looked a bit aghast when I explained that I wanted to make a bath and couches out of bricks but I told him that I was confident to build low walls myself so he did not have to do that bit!
Other news. Al also brought up his three kids and a friend. Most of them were right up the hill when a thunderstorm struck and torrential rain poured down. The kids got very wet getting across the rising creek to our side of the property. In fact they got so wet that they all had a swim to complete the job in the pool. By this time I had got lunch ready for everyone and as it was far to wet to go out we all crammed into the donga and steamed.
In the night the bridge on Hargreaves road was flooded over again and the repairs on the roof above my bed failed to keep the rain out. I am capable of sleeping through continuous dripping now, but I don’t enjoy it. The saving grace is that I found some good books in the op shop and can divert my mind elsewhere.
