BUILDING NEWS
Today the sun has come out between the showers. Edd went off round various neighbours this morning to find out who could lend us a pump to get the water out of the foundation trenches. John came over this afternoon when the rain stopped and together he and Edd got the pump in action. One snag is that the steel in the trenches stops us from getting at the water and silt so the concreters may have to take it all out again!
We are worried because more serious weather is on the way. We are going to try and pour the slab before Friday when a bad do is predicted. That means Thursday for slab pouring if we all work like mad. Usually we can depend on getting long dry periods at this time of year but La Nina is not a nice lady.
OTHER NEWS
Bo has got my car. Hers ended up in a garage because no one could get the petrol out of the tank satisfactorily. Not with out tipping diesel all over the garage floor, that is. She brought the green-eyed monsters up here today and we sent them up the apple trees to pass us down fruit. The birds are raiding the trees but they are so heavily laden that there is enough for all. I have found that if I pick them before they are totally ripe they store all winter.
Edd and I went out to Beni’s 60th party last night in Seville. The Melba Hwy was closed because of the floods so we had to go the long way round through Healesville. The road crossed Wandin Creek, which had spread to about a kilometre wide and looked like a mighty river. The party was in a hall with theme rooms from the past. Everyone danced feasted and made merry, doing everything possible to forget the shit happening outside.
