BUILDING NEWS
We now have drains behind the house and the first half of the fireplace and internal chimney! It was a warm sunny day and all things felt possible. I am still working on the floors crawling around scraping off any lumps of cement and concrete that have fallen on it. We have arranged for the first delivery of pavers next week and then when the floors are clean we are all ready for Garry to start putting them in place. That will be a big step forward.
The fireplace is looking good. I love the fact that the arch is made from bricks recycled from our old house and that some of them are still black from the fire. Our house will have its own history and tell a story before we even move in. I have noticed that even a small shiny object like a trowel can bounce light upward and inward. Perhaps a sculpture with mirrored leaves would work as a light deflector.
Quotes for the waterproofing are looking very scary. Dion is still asking questions and has not got to the roof quote yet. I think building costs are going up so fast we are not keeping pace.
OTHER NEWS
The days are pulling out now. It is light by half past six in the morning and not dark until later at night. The buds are opening on the fruit trees, unfortunately before I have got round to pruning them and I had to cut all the grass again today.
The last sheep to give birth produced triplets so that I have to go out with a bottle four times a day and top them up. At least this means they are all friendly and come when they are called. We are still putting them inside the shed at night for protection. The first twins are doing OK outside day and night now. Bo has reminded me to be on the look out for fly strike now the weather is warming up. It can be a problem in wet years.
Edd got the men with the diggers to dig out footing trenches for the end wall of the shed. He has brought blocks so that at least the first section of the wall will be solid. Edd also got out the wiper snipper and cut the grass by the pool so that I can keep going with the garden there. He even did the paths as well so it is all looking a bit more cared for. We have a school trip here on Thursday so I am glad that we have been able to get this done.
