soaking up the sun

BUILDING NEWS

We have started the working week with a glorious sunny Monday. This was lucky because we had a lot to get through. Geoff arrived early and finished building the chimney and Dion came to work out his roof steel and let us know where the connecting bolts need to be placed in the front walls when they are core filled.

Our first order of pavers from Boral was delivered about midday. The ground had dried out over the weekend so they could be stacked right next to the house, which is very convenient. I use any spare moment I get to brush and clean the concrete slab so that it is ready for the pavers to go down. I am not sure if we paint on a waterproofing compound on first or not. So far the floor has shown no sign of letting any moisture through.

Gary has told us to mark the floor with chalk to show the design we want the pavers to make. When we have done floors before we have actually laid all the pavers out and adjusted the design, but the snag with this is that they must be taken up in sections as the are cemented in. The chalk idea might work better.

It is amazing to think that we will soon have a roof and the flooring done. Edd has rung up the door people to try and get them to measure up and make the double glazed panels for the inner doors so that the glazing can be done after the floor and roof. We also need to sort out the water proofing so that we can find Steve and start the ceilings. Things will probably move too fast now.

OTHER NEWS

We had a Permaculture group here all morning and we all ate lunch together in the ruins and soaked up the sun. It was Graeme’s birthday so it was good that we could all share a special meal. When the visitors had left Edd noticed that Imogen, the goat with a white belt was doing something up in the old vineyard paddock.

Once we got up there we found that she had given birth to one enormous buck kid. She followed us back to the shed to join her friend who had decided not to go out to graze because she is very soon to give birth as well. We are definitely into kidding season now.

With all this activity I did not get to my pottery group, which was annoying. I am really enjoying making my pots even if they are a bit wonky. It is odd but in good weather I hate being indoors even for things I like doing. I actual like spending my time in the ruins of my old house. I have a lot of gardening to do there now that the weather has changed.
