BUILDING NEWS
It is quiet today. Edd has strung up extra lights and Gary is working his way paving and is now out of the robe and into the changing room. It looks as if he is about to strand himself in the inner corner. I have almost finished scraping off the storeroom floor. It is much easier to do now that Edd has set up lights.
There is so much now that we need to do at once. Edd is cleaning the back walls ready for waterproofing and setting up scaffold for when Steve arrives to start the ceiling frames. I cannot start the grouting of the floor until Gary completes the first area. The weather has really been helping. Warm and dry is exactly what we need right now.
OTHER NEWS
We had a family breakfast for father’s day yesterday. Our family arrived en force and we combined ingredients to provide a sumptuous breakfast. The weather being kind, we set up a table on the donga veranda, which was much nicer than all trying to cram inside. The missing person was Josh who is still in Perth but he phoned up with his best wishes. Arden looked super smart with his new summer hair cut!
The goat’s feet have improved a lot. We have been soaking them in hydrogen peroxide and either this has worked wonders or we have a double coincidence. I have moved the chooks into a new pen to get fresh greens and today we tackled the lamb’s tails. They are still too young to geld. The goat’s horns are the next task before we can say that the kidding work is complete.
I have glazed the pots I have made and Maureen has got her studio ready for the open studio weekends in two weeks. Theo is leaving for a long holiday so I will not have her company when we start potting again after the open days. My plan is to make a set of pots to serve our Xmas meal on. We are planning a family dinner on Xmas eve, which was what we always did before the fires. It would be wonderful if we could get back to the old routine this year.
My old pewter platters and jug are gone but I have brought cheap Indian imitations to stand in for them. We can use the trestle tables but I will need to make a new long tablecloth. Last time I got metres of fabric so that it would run the length of three tables. If we have a stove working I will cook turkey otherwise we will have to be more inventive.
