BUILDING NEWS

The good news is that Garry and Toby have paved the back passage. The bad news is that Edd and Stevo have not yet finished the main room ceiling frame. Dion is making slow progress with the roof and even though the waterproof mob worked all yesterday they still did not complete the job. I have got no more done on the grouting either because I have been sent off fetching stuff for everyone else.

Yesterday I had lunch with Al and we planned the kitchen cupboards. I do not find kitchen cupboards at all inspiring but I suppose they are useful. I have decided on a whitened wood look and Al suggests oregon wood so that I can have thick shelves like I had before. He also likes the granite we found at our special stone shop.

I rang the stone people today and apparently my stone is moving slowly closer and might reach the shop next week! I am told that granite bench tops come slowly too, so I need to allow two months or so. That means an order has to go in soon if I want them before 2012. At least now we have planned the kitchen we know what we need.

It will all be possible if Garry continues to be able to lay the floor at this rate. Everything goes on top of the floor so it has to be done first. Garry is not at all sure I am capable of doing the grouting and keeps making worrying noises. I am sure I can do it but with everything else I have to do even I have to admit that my progress is minimal up to date.

OTHER NEWS

Our life has basically contracted to building only, but the goats and other animals still need to be cared for. The big question is, is Dot pregnant? It does look as if she might be, and if that is so I have a nice home waiting for her. She has been in our herd for her working years now and has been a great favourite with guests and everyone. I think she deserves a good home with more individual attention now.

The plan is also to sell the spare bucks and excess doe kids this weekend. I would love to keep them all but we actually need a smaller herd now, not a larger one. Last years kids are still at the leggy stage but they are a nice bunch and well trained now. Since we started using the brown bucks we are getting longer winter coats so I expect they will look a lot better once they have shed to summer wear.
