BUILDING NEWS
Massive action today. Gary and Toby are back doing floors, Dion is here worrying about it being too windy to weld the roof and Stevo and Edd are doing the main bedroom ceiling. I would like to go on with the grouting but after taking a look I have come to the conclusion that I would just get in the men’s way. I did the animals and then found that Edd was feeling very sick so I took over as carpenter’s labourer for the rest of the day.
Dion went home because the wind went on and Gary with Toby’s help steamed away and got the back storage room paved. I was surprised at how so many people could work in the house without getting in each other’s way or drowning the place with noise.
OTHER NEWS
Sunday was one of our permaculture open days, basically so that people with kids can see the young animals. We had a very nice family over and enjoyed their company for the morning and we had further visitors later in the day. Simon took the boys sailing with his parents and we met up as a family for tea at Bo’s. She had cooked what she called a “Tessa” meal of roast beef and horseradish sauce, which was delicious. Al brought a salad of rocket he has grown in his new garden. He made the garden less than a month ago but he always did have green fingers. ( jealousy , jealousy).
It was so nice to have every one happy and full of the things they had done over the weekend. I worry about Bo who just keeps working and encourages everyone else to do the fun things. Still, the nice warm sunny weather is giving us all a boost.
It is actually very dry now. Today it was warm even before the sun was up. The wind is warm but I always like the warm winds even if no one else does. The builders comment on how much cooler it is in the house even though there are no doors or windows in yet. I will miss the light in the house when Dion puts the roof on but I know we need the shade to keep the heat out. It will probably be much lighter when the walls are white instead of grey concrete block colour.
Caroline and family called in tonight on their way home from a country drive. It was fantastic to make contact again. How I long to have a house and give dinner parties for our friends again. At least I have now made lots of the dinner plates and serving dishes and have started collecting things like napkins so that I can be off to a flying start when the house is built.
