rain and broken bones

BUILDING NEWS

Zero.

OTHER NEWS

X-rays revealed that Edd had broken a bone in his hand and the hospital plastered his arm and hand and strapped the whole thing in a way that prevented him driving and doing more or less everything else. He drove himself to the hospital but Bo, Simon and his dad rescued him and the ute.

I worked with the builders and then we met up again at the Bohdi tree restaurant for Ti’s birthday. Al's x had organised a party and asked us all along. She and Al deserve top marks for the way they handled the occasion and put aside any personal difficulties to give their son a good family party.

Even so there was this overtone of sadness. India and Arden were busy else where but all the other usual friends and extended family were present. It was the same as usual, but totally different and my main feeling was sadness.

Huge winds yesterday blew in a thunderstorm and non-stop rain. It is still pouring now and everything is thoroughly miserable. Down at our house site I picked up all the tools and put them in dry corners because the rain was blowing right in the front where there should be a roof and windows. It was obviously impossible to do any work there so we have all had a day off.

Edd and I went out and sat by the fire in Bo’s restaurant where we had a very delicious meal. Then we worked on organisation. I worked did the accounts and Edd got on the phone to get gutters and flashing picked up and that sort of thing. For once the donga has not leaked but the rain has blown right through the sheds and the animals are having a bad time.

BUILDING NEWS

Stevo and Edd are now working on the frame of the passage ceiling. Edd fell over and hurt his wrist and Steve cracked his head on his trailer. They both tried their best to ignore the pain and keep working. Dion comes and goes but there are no noticeable changes to the roof he is building and we still have no protection from the rain.

I have made some progress with the grouting. I do this job myself so that I can fill the joints between the pavers right to the floor level. Once I do this the floor looks like a brick floor and is extremely easy to clean even with a sponge mop. It is actually better than a brick floor because the edges of the pavers are rounded and much smoother than bricks.

Gary is now working on the rounded patterns in the main bedroom. He has completed the back passage and made a great design in the entrance hall. I am well behind him with the grouting and I can see myself spending the next few months on my knees trying to catch up.

OTHER NEWS

There were a lot of men all working in one corner of the house today so I abandoned my work down there and cleaned out our donga instead. It really needed doing.
